BrentBlack Studios is a newly formed studio headed by talented graphical illustrator, Brent Swart. Before opening his collective studio this year, Brent previously worked as a freelancer in the field.
Born and raised in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, Brent had been dabbling in the art scene for about 8 years, starting humbly by creating t-shirt illustrations for a shirt company using Microsoft Paint. His designs became quite popular and gave him the confidence to branch out and start pursuing a direction in cartoon illustrations and flash projects. Which generated some great jobs and valuable field experience.
Brent Swart’s talents have won him the merit award for ‘Antalis Art of Design’ in 2010, as well as being a finalist in the ‘Goldpak Awards 2010’, including several awards for his studies at ‘Tshwane University of Technology’ (2009-2011).
Since then, Brent has recently completed his Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design and planning on studying further when time permits and plans on taking his new collective studio to exciting new heights through 2012.
But since this is also a toy related blog, it is also worth mentioning that Brent has also been flexing his illustrative touch to custom toy design, designing a KidRobot munny and accompanying print (viewable in the gallery above). Which is pretty damn slick if you ask me!
