Designer Toy Awards 2011 - Winners Announced!

Last night, amongst the craziness that is the San Diego Comic Con, Clutter Magazine presented the first The Designer Toy Awards, hosted at Munky King in San Diego.
I myself couldn’t be there, for obvious logistical reasons, but I followed the action keenly as it unfolded on Twitter, thanks to Steve Talkowski’s running commentary on the winners.
Since this was the first award show, nominees were being accepted from work over the past two years. So there was quite a large amount of nominees in the running, and all rightfully so, with the list being reduced to a few shortlisted by pre-award voting. South Africa was being well represented with Hello Vinyl nominated for Best Blog and Vinyl Destination for Best Online Toy Store (both unfortunately not making the short list..) while Kronk making the top 5 for Artist Of The Year. Go Team SA!
There were a lot of suprises amongst the obvious takers in all categories, and without further ado, read on for the full list of shortlisted nominees and winners in each category…

And that concluded the awards! Congrats to ALL the winners. It’s a pity that in a scene where there is SO many talented artists and influential people and companies that keep the toy scene alive, that only a select few walk away with an award, but it goes without saying that everyone was a winner that night!
Big congrats and thanks goes to Clutter Magazine, again, for taking up this behemoth task of organising this award show. And from what I can tell, it was a relative success! So look forward to this happening again in the future!
Thanks for reading and stick around for some photos of the event below… (thanks goes to all the photographers who can’t unfortunately be credited.. but I’m sure you know who you are!)
