The Given’s Mickey Piece for Play Imaginative x Disney Custom Show
Local custom toy artist, Abe Viljoen aka The Given, has given us a glimpse of his Mickey piece he has designed for the Play Imaginative x Disney custom show that he has been invited to contribute towards.
The Given said this about the show..
I was very happy to be invited to be involved with this custom show, as I actually have a love for old school cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse. Naturally I had to go with the vintage colour scheme and what is fast becoming my calling card with the added gold.
The custom is titled “The House of Mouse” and features a custom helmet, as well as bullet band and custom grenades.
As always, we are super excited to see our local South African talent making their mark and appearances in international toy shows. And we wish Abe much success with his piece when it’s unveiled with the rest of the world’s best efforts sometime this year!
Captain America & Red Skull Customs by Fuller Designs
James Fuller (aka Fuller Designs) continues his impressive streak of comic-book hero themed customs, with his latest revealed Captain America and Red Skull duo set.
Fuller always manages to capture the characters perfectly with his very distinct clean and edgy style. There is some wickedly nice sculpting work to help give Red Skull his menacing bone-faced look, along with his gun and Cap’s shield are nice touches and excellently executed.

Cris Rose’s Robotones Series

Cris Rose, a London based toy creator and amazing customiser, has recently launched his new resin figure series called the Robotones.
The Robotones is quite a novel idea for a series where every month, for the next 12 months, Cris releases a new single coloured resin figure in one of 2, 3” moulded styles (The wheeled Rourke, or the bipedal Renold). The idea is that at the end of the 12 months you will have a pretty awesome rainbow themed collection of resin figures..!

The colour released would be in some way related to the respective month, for instance the first release for January is titled January Blues, and Cris has already hinted that February, the month of love, will see the release of Valentine Pink.
Here’s a preview snap of all 12 tones you can expect to collect over the next year..

The bots will go on sale on the 7th of each month and last till the end of that month, or until stock runs out.
They sell at a super reasonable price of $25 for either of the 2 designs.
I think this is a great novel idea that would be fun collecting over the next 12 months, and there is even word that a limited 13th tone will be available to peeps who collect the original set of 12.
If you’re a fan of colourful, themed figures, and want to support hard working independent artists, this is a set of releases you DON’T want to miss!
Go over to Cris’ site and go and grab your first Robotone bot!
